About-Us

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and Open. Open Grade is usually for beginner photographers and for those members who just enjoy taking photographs without doing extensive editing.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

The 1st Monday of the Month is Special Interests group night

  • Members choose their own interest subject to collect 4-10 images on.
  • This is not for competition but to allow members to explore their own photography journey.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

Selections for Australian Photographic Society Cup 2023

Selection for entries has been quite a challenge as the the brief was “Any image that shows a flavour of life in Australia including landscapes, people, iconic events and iconic places including architecture, birds and animals.” Images are being judged 11th-25th June and the results will be available on 30th July. In the past Clubs have been able to watch the results as they come in on Zoom and I am hoping this will be the same this year, I will advise when I have the link to the Zoom. -Dianne English

July Competition

We had another great comp night at the club last night with an excellent rollup.

Our judge Bill Chambers did a great job with judging our prints on the night and our digitals previously. I’m sure we all learned a lot, especially about the definition on “Minimalism”.

Once again there were some very impressive images on display.

Congratulations and well done everyone!

Our next competition night is on Monday 10th July and it will be in the auditorium.

Entries will be both print and digitals.

Our July digital images are due in by 11:59 pm Saturday 24th June.

Unfortunately, if you miss the deadline there is nothing we can do. The digital images are passed onto the judge early in the morning on the day after and the competition cannot be reopened.
Now that we’re back to having prints, if you miss the deadline for the digitals you can always choose to put in print entries instead.

The prints sections will close 2 days before competition night (At 11:59 pm on the Saturday before the competition. Saturday 8th July).
You then need to bring your prints with you on the night and have them on the stands by 6:30.

Please put the dates in your calendar where you’ll remember.

Our set subject for July is:
Creative” – The definition for “Creative” is: Let your inhibitions run wild and have fun.

As well as our set subject we will have our usual colour and mono categories.

Please remember that for 2023 we can still only enter 3 images each in total.

Note: We can only put in 2 entries per section (Colour, Mono or Set Subject) per member.

We could choose 2 prints or 2 EDI’s or 1 Print and 1 EDI per section.
Remember, print and digital for each section is 1 category for the purposes of entering.

Our judge for July is Helen Walker.
Helen has judged for us before and did an excellent job.

Good luck to everyone with your “Creative” Images.

PSA Interclub 2023/24

We are now starting a new year with the PSA Interclub.

The competition buttons are now open under the Members Tab. I have decided to start with a clean slate this time and have deleted all previous entries by everybody so as of now there are no images in any of these files. The new competition entries close at midnight on Nov 1st.

The only images which cannot be reentered are those which have been previously entered. I have put a link below to the Master Spreadsheet which has all club images used since we started so you can easily see which of your images have been used.

PSA Interclub Master Record

PSA also requires a signed Release from every member who has an image entered in the competition. Releases are valid for three years and many of the ones I have on file are expiring so I will require a new Release Form from ALL members. There is a link below to a Word doc which can be printed and signed. You can then either scan or take a photo with your phone and send to me. ian@bbsol.com or 0411136571. I shall also bring a group form to the next few meetings which you can fill out on the night.

PSA Individual Release Doc

Remember you can upload up to three images in each of the five sections. In the last three rounds, PSA changed from Open and Creative to Open Colour and Open Mono. Any image which was enter in Creative before can now be entered in either. Those entered in Open before can now also be entered in Open Mono but not Open Colour.

Let’s aim for some higher finishes this year so looking forward to seeing your best images plus any new images recently created.

Cheers, Ian PSA Interclub Coordinator ian@bbsol.com 0411136571
