about-us

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

Monday 22nd Tutorial

Monday nights tutorial will be presented by Greg Carrutthers from the Belmont Camera Club showing us the way with Lightroom Classic!

While we had our own Lightroom guru Mike Fidler showing us around Lightroom Classic, Greg is taking us a step further with his presentations, “Introduction to the Lightroom some Tips and Tricks”, which will be covered over at least 4 tutorials.

So folks keep the evening free and learn to use further techniques in Lightroom Classic! Looking forward to seeing lots of smiling faces on the night!

Warmest Regards to all Toni.

July Competition

Hi All,
We had another great comp night over zoom last night. Great to once again see so many smiling faces.
There were some very impressive images from our very talented members.
Congratulations and well done everyone!

It was fantastic to have our judge Arthur Roy join us at our zoom meeting. He gave us some very valuable feedback on ways to improve our images.
He also gave us some very valuable tips on bird photography and what we need to watch out for when sharpening our bird images.

Due to the changes in our entry dates, which everyone should now have been informed about, we have only until the 27th June to get our entries for the July competition in.
That gives us another 18 days from today.

Unfortunately, if you miss the deadline there is nothing we can do. The images are passed onto the judge early in the morning on the day after and the competition cannot be reopened.

Please put the date in your calendar where you’ll remember.

Our next competition night is on Monday 13th July and I anticipate that this meeting will again be over zoom.

Entries will again only be digitals and the closing date for entries will be 11pm on Saturday 27th June.

Our set subject for June is:
Action – “Any topic where the photo indicates that action is happening”.

As well as our set subject we will have are usual colour and mono categories.

Our Judge for May is Sharron Leppien. I believe this is the first time Sharron will have judged for us. Sharron is very keen to join with us over zoom. Below is a bit of information that Sharron has provide about her photography journey.

I always kept photography in my peripheral vision from a young age. I purchased my first adult SLR in 1986. It was a Zenith and I loved it to death. I wore the black enamel off the heavy brass body and asked it to do the most wondrous things until the heavy clunk of the shutter fell silent. Fast forward a few years until I purchased my first DSLR. I loved all of my Fujifilm cameras and then jumped ship to Nikon. I currently own Nikon D850 & D810 but I still sneak peeks at the new Fujifilm Medium and Large format cameras.
My absolute favourite genre of photography is Travel and Photojournalism. I love the challenge of thinking quick and always being prepared for what is around the corner.
I am the current President of the Maitland International Salon of Photography and am steadily accruing enough International Exhibition awards and acceptances to have gained my AFIAP, FAPS & QPSA.
I don’t have a website or a facebook page for you to view my work. But, if you have the September 2019 issue of the Australian Photography Magazine you will see one of my images gracing the front cover.
I am looking forward to viewing Wangi’s club member’s images for your July competition.

Below are a couple of sample images to give you some ideas. There are many other topics that will fit the “action” set subject. These are just to give you a few ideas to stat with.

Closing dates now altered

Following Sue’s email about EDI competitions closing 2 weeks earlier I have now altered our web system so these dates are now set and will close automatically on the following dates:

July (Action) comp will now close at 11pm on Saturday 27th June

August (Portrait) comp will now close at 11pm on Saturday 25th July

September (Macro) comp will now close at 11pm on Saturday 29th August

October (Flora) comp will now close at 11pm on Saturday 26th September

Once they have closed I can’t reopen them as we hand them over to the Judges on the Sunday. It may be worth putting these dates in your calendar as some closing dates are now in the preceding month.

Important! Changes to Entry Dates

Starting this July our entry dates for digital entries will be brought forward by 1 week.

Our digital entries will now be due in at 11pm on the Saturday night 2 weeks before the competition night.

This means that for this July entries will be due in at 11pm on Saturday 27th June.

This change will now be a permanent thing.

The change has been made in response to continuous feedback from our judges that 1 week just isn’t enough time to judge and write comments for all our entries …. especially now that we often have in excess of 160 entries.

Our set subject for this July is “Action”. (Any topic where the photo indicates that action is happening).

Correction: AGM is on 22 June 2020

Our AGM will be held via Zoom at 7pm on 22 June immediately before the tutorial.

Please let Susan know if you have any topic you would like to raise at the AGM so it can be added to the agenda.

We will also have an election of core Committee members. If you would like to volunteer for any role on the Committee please let Susan know so we can ensure you get the right information about the role and responsibilities. Core roles are

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Competition Steward
  • Two member representatives.

Our current Committee members are willing to stand for another year, but that should not prevent anyone from volunteering if you are interested.
