Our club is based at the Wangi Workers Club at Wangi Wangi NSW

We meet at the Wangi Workers’ Club in the Dobell Room at 7.00pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.

The club’s mission statement is:

“a shared enjoyment of the art and craft of photography in a learning environment”

Use the green About Us button for information on our club and what we do.

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

New feature – the Critique Corner

From Colin – the creator of MyPhotoClub.

A new feature, known as the critique corner, has been introduced to the club website.

The Critique Corner aims to help members to fine-tune potential entries by gaining feedback from other members before the image is entered into a competition.

All members, regardless of experience are encouraged to upload images and make comments on images.  The aim is to help each other to develop both your image capture and processing skills, and to take the judges’ point of view when assessing an image. There are no grades within this activity.

Each member can upload one image per category.  Once uploaded you can use this image in an upcoming competition.  You can remove the image and replace it with another image whenever you choose.

The best practice is to upload an image and then add a comment that poses a question regarding the image – e.g. Do you think it is oversaturated? Should I crop it tighter?

The critique corner is accessible from the Members page (use the grey Members button) as shown below:

This is a new MyPhotoClub feature so feedback to colin@myphotoclub.com.au is welcome. All members are subscribed to receive a once a day notification message when new images are submitted.

For more information, or to unsubscribe, go to the Critique Corner page.

Here is a video on how to use this feature.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=CgITBx_uuMs&feature=emb_logo

PSA Interclub Round 2 Entries

I have created Competitions for the four PSA Interclub divisions we are competing in. Entries close on Monday 3rd Feb at 11.00pm. Go to the members area and then competitions and click on the 2020 button to see these upload buttons.

I have left in all of the entries which were not selected for the previous round. I have also increased the number of entries we are able to put in for our club judging to three entries per person. We can still only select one entry from each of six different members. When you enter new images, you can view the entries which have been left in from the previous round and remove them if you wish.

Let’s keep up the momentum we have established and enter our best images for selection.

Happy Snapping New Year to you all. Ian English 0411136571 ianenglish999@gmail.com

January Competitions

Hi All,

What as busy time it’s been lately leading up to Christmas. What a great time we had at the Christmas party.

Congratulations to all our award winners.

Congratulations to the following members who will be going up a grade for 2020. David Hansell, Andrew Gardyne and David Price will be moving from A Grade into Advanced Grade and Susan Hansell, Marie Kildey, Maxine Reid and Jan Whittles will move from B Grade into A Grade.

It is only 1 month until our January competition night (Monday 13th January), which means we need to start thinking about our entries.

Don’t forget that you are now able to enter 4 images a month instead of 3. All other rules stay the same.

EDI uploads are due in by 11pm on Saturday 4th January and our print uploads are due by 11pm on Saturday 11th January.

Our Set Subject for January is “Travel”. I know we have some very keen and talented “Travel” photographers in our group who have travelled to some very spectacular destinations, so I’m sure it’ll be a great show of images.
At the end of this post are some sample “Travel Photography” images. Please keep in mind these are just samples, to whet your appetite, of the possible types of images that might be included.
The definition of and guidelines for “Travel Images” is outlined on our competition program. (Please refer to this as the judge will be following these guidelines).
Of course we also have our other usual categories of “Colour” & “Mono”.

Our Judge for January is Roy Killen. Below is a bit of information about Roy and his achievements that Roy provided for us.
Most of us know Roy and are very familiar with Roy being a judge for our club. (I hope I have this all correct and up to date).

My main interest is nature photography.
I have been competing in international competitions since 2008 and have received more than 5700 acceptances and more than 400 awards. Through these competitions I have gained the following photographic distinctions:

  • EFIAP (Excellence award, International Federation of Photographic Arts)
  • GMPSA (Grand Masters award, Photographic Society of America)
  • GMAPS (Grand Masters award, Australian Photographic Society)
  • APSEM (Australian Photographic Society Exhibitors Medal)

In 2015 I was awarded the Nature Medallion by the Australian Photographic  Society.
I regularly judge competitions at club, national and international levels.
I frequently present workshops for photography clubs on photographic techniques and image processing.
I am the Membership Vice President of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and I am happy to assist you with any PSA related matters.

Good luck to everyone and if anyone needs any more information you can email me on suewinsley@iinet.net.au or ring me on 0417677438

Cheers, Sue Winsley (Competition Steward).

Results PSA Interclub Nature (1)

Well we have done it again and topped our group by a long way, eight points clear of the next club.. A big congratulation this time to David Price who was awarded Best of Show with a score of 14. The next highest score of all entrants in our group was 12 so his image “Jacana protecting chicks” did super well. Congrats also to Else Seligmann and Colleen Price for their Honours Awards. There were two other Aussie clubs in our group and I have included their scores as well. The next round for all four divisions closes on Feb 15th so I will set up the comp entry links and send an email with details and closing dates etc.

Please click the “more” button to see the results tables
