about-us

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

July Competition

Hi All, our July competition is almost here.

EDI’s are due in by 11pm on Saturday 29th June and our print uploads are due by 11pm on Saturday 6th July.

Our Set Subject for July is “Soft and Subdued”. The definition for this is “A photo that gives a soft gentle feeling where the light is not harsh or vibrant. There should be no strong colours dominating the image”.
I can’t wait to see what imaginative ideas our talented group comes up with.
Of course we also have our other usual categories of “Colour” & “Mono”.

Our Judge for July is Vanessa Blagden.
Vanessa has judged for us on quite a few occasions before.
She has been interested in photography for quite some time. In 1990, she and her husband David went on a sailing adventure out to the Solomon Islands and PNG for 2 years. She has photographs and articles published during this time.
After that they ran a very successful photography business (D&V Photography) which employed 12 photographers and 5 office staff. Unfortunately Vanessa’s husband passed away and the business finished in 2012.
Vanessa and her husband also photographed for National Geographic and have had many images of birds, lizards, snakes and frogs published.
In 2012 Vanessa changed to family portraiture and photographed up to 500 families a year, employing 3 photographers and 5 office staff. This business closed in 2015.
Vanessa has spoken internationally on 8 occasions regarding photography and running a photographic business.

Good luck to everyone and if anyone needs any more information you can email me on suewinsley@iinet.net.au or ring me on 0417677438

Cheers, Sue Winsley (Competition Steward).

PAINTING WITH LIGHT!

Our tutorial on Monday 24th will be presented by Bill Chamber and will involve Painting with Light.

Having seen one of Bill’s presentations on this subject I am sure that you will be well entertained. This is a tutorial for members to participate and get some interesting images so you will need to bring along your camera, tripod and remote shutter release. Also bring a torch for adjusting your settings in the dark. We maybe able to do a follow up workshop as well to make your own light set ups.

This tutorial will be held straight after our AGM.

Toni Conquest.
