about-us

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the financial year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

Online Scoring for PSA Creative (3)

All A Grade and Advanced members please log on to the website and go to competitions and scroll to the PSA Creative (3) competition and click on the star. Then click on the first image and click your score for that image in the bar at the top and wait for the next image to appear. Repeat the process and go through all of the images.

Score guide: 1 – Does not meet definition 2 – Below standard 3 – Average standard 4 – Above average standard and to be considered for inclusion 5 – High standard and should be selected

Remember that the PSA definition for creative is Altered Reality. Story telling or artistic interpretation carry a lot of weight in Altered Reality.

You have until Thursday midnight (tomorrow) to complete the scoring and I will then enter the top 6 images from six different people to the PSA Website. Thank you for helping our club selection process. We are starting to do well in these competitions and we must keep it going.

May Competition fast approaching.

Hi All,

What as busy time it’s been lately with Easter and Anzac Day so close together.

It is only 2 weeks until our May competition night, which means we have less than a week to get our EDI’s in and less than 2 weeks to get our prints uploaded.

EDI’s are due in by 11pm on Saturday 4th May and our print uploads are due by 11pm on Saturday 11th May.

Our Set Subject for May is “Fungi”. I know we have some very keen and talented “Fungi” photographers in our group so I’m sure it’ll be a great show of images.
Of course we also have our other usual categories of “Colour” & “Mono”.

Our Judge for May is Chris Prior. Below is a bit of information about Chris. (I hope I have this all correct and up to date).
Chris has been interested in photography for over 40 years. He started out with developing and printing his own B&W film in a home darkroom.
He is a member of APS and Belmont 16’s camera club. (He served as president for 2 years).
He regularly enters International Photography Competitions & has won at least one gold medal, and some bronze & highly commended awards.
His favourite photo subject is surfing and subsequently has had hundreds of photos published in surfing magazines, such as Tracks, Surfing Life, Waves, Surfing Snaps, People Magazine, Kodak’s My Australia & many others.
His Motto is “If it moves I shoot it and if it doesn’t I shoot it too”.

Good luck to everyone and if anyone needs any more information you can email me on suewinsley@iinet.net.au or ring me on 0417677438

Cheers, Sue Winsley (Competition Steward).

Invitation to a Visual Presentation

Wangi Camera Club is pleased to invite the members of our club and their guests to an informative and visual evening with Adriano Carrideo on Monday night the 27th May starting at 7pm.

Entry is $5.00

Raffle tickets will be available on the night for $5 each or 3 for $10 to be drawn at this event and the prizes are:-

1st Prize: Canon 750D DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm lens, valued at circa $700

2nd Prize : Canon Optical Cleaning kit

About the Presentation

“The aim of my presentation called “Applying both Art and Science” is to provide an insight into how my personal process of image creating and thoughts come together. The talk touches upon universal design tools used in art/design theory. Tools I found personally useful that helped me understand the psychology of art and visual presentation. I feel this insight has helped me engage the audience and promote my personal interest with evocative landscape and street/wildlife photography as well as hopefully revealing something deeper, richer and magical about the world around us. The simple act of creating images is exciting for me as it often feels like a never-ending experiment, practising and testing different photographic and post processing techniques with different outcomes”.

Lake Mac International Group – Varna Salon

The results are out for our first International Salon entered as a group. There were 17 Wangi members plus Roy Killen who entered a varying number of sections each and overall between us we gained 55 acceptances. This included a Salon Bronze Medal for Joy Thomas for her Landscape image and Colleen Price received a GPU HM for her Nature image.

Congratulations to all members who entered. I have drawn up a table for members giving breakdowns of where the acceptances came from.

This is a fantastic first up result and I will call a meeting to review the results and discuss future Salons. The link to the results is below:

Results PSA Creative Round 2

Well the results are in and we did extremely well. We came second in our Group B and third overall when you take Group A scores into consideration, we came third overall. Out of our six entries, our members achieved four awards, more than any club in our group. Congratulations Wangi. If you have not already done so, would you please submit two creative images in the PSA Interclub (3) comp and lets see if we can get to number one.

PSA Interclub Nature Judging Results

Below is a PDF of the people who judged and the images selected to represent our club highlighted in orange.

As we are only permitted to use one image from each member, there were some higher scoring images which were not able to be used. We will save those for the next time.

Well done everybody and thanks to the people who submitted images and to those who voted.

Cheers Ian Coordinator PSA Interclub
