Welcome

Our club is based at the Wangi Workers Club at Wangi Wangi NSW

We meet at the Wangi Workers’ Club in the Dobell Room at 7.00pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.

The club’s mission statement is:

“a shared enjoyment of the art and craft of photography in a learning environment”

Use the green About Us button for information on our club and what we do.

about-us

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the financial year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

PSA Interclub Nature Judging Results

Below is a PDF of the people who judged and the images selected to represent our club highlighted in orange.

As we are only permitted to use one image from each member, there were some higher scoring images which were not able to be used. We will save those for the next time.

Well done everybody and thanks to the people who submitted images and to those who voted.

Cheers Ian Coordinator PSA Interclub

Urgent

John Frost needs more photos of people and activity in our region for “Life in our Region” exhibition.

I am sure people have photos of the vineyards, Morisset Show, Maitland show, beach activities, steamfest, Nostalgia festivals, market days, Boat festivals, airplane displays, street parties. Try to include some people enjoying living here.

Do a search today and upload. If cannot get done today email John. We need members help to make this a success.

Thank you

Colleen and John

Judging PSA Interclub Nature (3)

Message for all Advanced and A grade members.

This comp is now ready for judging. You have until midnight tomorrow Friday 12th April to complete your scoring and I will then close judging and submit our club entries. Once you navigate to the scoring page, it is a fairly quick process. Please get involved and help select our club entries.

Procedure is – Log in, go to members, then competitions. Scroll to this competition and click the Blue scoring button. You then click on the Green button for this comp. You click on the first image and it will display the image with a row of scoring buttons along the top numbered 1 – 5. To score you just click the number button to score that image. You score your own entries as normal. When you have scored the first image a score will show and the next image will be displayed. Continue through the 30 entries.

Guide for allocating scores:

1 Does not meet the definition (see definition below) 2 Below standard 3 Acceptable image 4 High standard and possible inclusion 5 High standard and a definite inclusion

Scores will be totalled and the best six images from six different members will be selected.

Remember that story telling is most important followed by all the usual technical aspects. PSA Nature Definition below:

Nature photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archaeology, in such a fashion that a well-informed person will be able to identify the subject material and certify its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality while maintaining high technical quality.

Human elements shall not be present, except where those human elements are integral parts of the nature story such as nature subjects, like barn owls or storks, adapted to an environment modified by humans, or where those human elements are in situations depicting natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves.

Scientific bands, scientific tags or radio collars on wild animals are permissible. Photographs of human created hybrid plants, cultivated plants, feral animals, domestic animals, or mounted specimens are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the photographic statement.
