// Action for CLUBS

The 2nd Monday of the month is our competition night.

  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

Another invite from Maitland Camera Club!

“We would like to invite WWCC to join us next Tuesday 20th July, 7pm for a Zoom presentation with Paul Tilley.

We had a session with Paul last year on motor sport photography. He has an interesting background and extensive experience as a photographer and is active in QLD with the Redlands group etc. Paul’s day job is a lecturer in a tertiary setting and his presentation last year was really well structured and balanced. He welcomes questions and discussion as he presents.

Paul’s focus for this presentation is his monochrome work.

Basically it will be a good opportunity to explore outside our local bubble!”

It is very generous of Maitland Camera Cub to invite us to their Zoom tutorial and I’m hoping mor ofour members will take advantage of this opportunity and join in. We only had 6 takers for last night invite but only 3 logged in.

Looking forward to seeing you there! Toni!

August Competition

Hi Everyone,

Once again we had a great group of our members present last night for our July Comp night over zoom.

We had some very impressive images from our members. It is always great to sit back and enjoy the images our club members produce.

Congratulations and well done to everyone.

A reminder to all our members that our August comp is coming up very fast.

Our August images are due in by 11:59pm Saturday 24th July.

Please remember that if you miss the deadline there is nothing we can do. The images are passed onto the judge early in the morning on the day after and the competition cannot be reopened.

Please put the date in your calendar where you’ll remember.

IMPORTANT: When you enter images on the website you will be sent a confirmation email. Please check this email thoroughly and check that your images are in the correct categories and that you have entered them in the correct month. Unfortunately the website sometimes makes errors and puts images in the wrong category. If you see this error before the comp closes you can go back in and make the necessary changes. Unfortunately once the comp has closed changes can’t be made.

Our next competition night is on Monday 9th August and will hopefully be at the club, but we all know how quickly this can change.

Entries will again only be digitals.
We will project the images onto the screen at the club and I will read out the judges’s comments, unless our judge chooses to come along.

Our set subject for August is:
Fences and/or Gates– The definition for “Fences and/or Gates” is…..The Fence and/or Gates can be any image you wish as long as the fence and/or gate is dominant in your image.

As well as our set subject we will have are usual colour and mono categories.

Please remember that we can only enter 3 images each in total with no more than 2 in any category.

Our judge for August is Mick Lynch.
Mick has judged for us a couple of times before and has always done a great job of judging.
Below is a bit of information about Mick.

Michael Lynch has been practicing photography since 1972 and is a successful entrant in National and International photographic competitions, and over the years has acquired many awards and is now a regular International Entrant. He is an Accredited Judge and still judge’s competitions throughout NSW camera clubs.
Michael has great interest in all aspects of photography, encouraging and enjoys helping beginners and is encouraged by the magnificent work that local club members are producing in their local competitions. He is a passionate Black & White landscape, animal, wedding and portrait photographer.

Good luck to everyone and enjoy taking and putting together some “Water” images.

If you have any questions please contact me on suewinsley@iinet.net.au

Cheers, Sue Winsley (Competition Steward).

Social walk and photo shoot, Tuesday 13 July

We’re planning an informal walk and photo shoot in Newcastle on Tuesday 13 July.  Central Newcastle is generally flat and has lots of places along the waterfront, with parks, heritage buildings and architecture, jetties, big/small boats, beach, rock platforms and ocean baths, even the odd dolphin or seal. And plenty of places for a coffee or lunch. Here are some ideas

Part of taking a great photo is planning for it and that takes more than just camera settings.  By all means bring your camera, but I’m thinking of using the walk as a scouting exercise to discover interesting places where I can come back later, and take my time when eg the light is best.

And for those of you working on portfolios we can help sound out your ideas and keep an eye out for opportunities.  Bring your notebook.

If you’re interested please let Susan know and we’ll plan a route depending on what the group would like to achieve. We’ll aim to assemble at the car park at Nobby’s Beach (its free) at around 10am.

PS, I’m looking to do a portfolio based on long exposure techniques using neutral density filters so if that’s not a familiar technique and you would like to have a go, bring a spare SD card.

WW Camera Club AGM

Just a reminder that our AGM has been postponed due to Covid restrictions and will now be held immediately before our July competition night on 12 July at 7pm. We are expecting it to be a short AGM.

We are hoping the AGM and comp night will be held at the club, but if restrictions are not eased by then we will arrange a Zoom meeting for both.

Here is the final Agenda

Portfolio night cancelled

Unfortunately we will need to cancel Monday night’s portfolio meeting.

I was looking forward to seeing the progress of member’s work on their chosen subject. Keep being inspired and take and create images that give you joy. Hopefully we will be back to normal soon.
