  • Our Competition Program is available from our website.
  • There are 3 grades, Advanced, A and B. B Grade is usually for beginner photographers.
  • We have photos presented both in print form as well as Digital (EDI) option. (EDI – Electronic Data Images)
  • Both Digital and Print contests require you to enter online on this website and include a digital copy of each entry. This will be displayed in an image gallery on the website
  •  All photographs are displayed and critiqued by the judge on the night. Most judges provide very beneficial feedback, from which we all learn
  • At the end of the year we run our “Photo of the Year”competition (POTY). The photos entered in this competition must be photographs that have been entered in competitions throughout the year.

The 4th Monday of the month is our tutorial night.

  • We have had many and varied tutorials and continue to do so every month.
  • Suggestions from members as to what tutorials they would like to have are very welcome.

Visitors are always welcome to come along however visitors cannot enter any competitions until they become a member of the club. Follow the link under About us for info on joining.

August Judge BIO

Don’t forget our images for August are due in by 11 pm tonight.

Our judge Ian Marriner has provided some information about himself which is below:

Ian Marriner Bio 2020 – Experienced Photographer

Hi, my name is Ian Marriner and I am a passionate photographer based in Nelson Bay, Australia.
I’m an avid photographer and scuba diver, an exciting blending of passions. I have been photographing underwater for some 35 years while at the same time pursuing other photography interests. Simultaneously I created a successful portrait and wedding studio that honed and refined my photographic skills. My wife and I ran a successful studio (Hi Exposure Portraits) in the Upper Hunter for some 13 years. Moving to Newcastle I worked for a number of years as contract portrait and wedding photographer for both Studio Life Photography and Gap Studios.
I have worked as a freelance photographer on assignment for corporates such as Australian Tourist Commission, Lizard Island Resort, Australian Airlines (Now QANTAS) and Fitzroy Island Resort. I am now using this life-time of learning to create fine art underwater, seascape, and landscape images. Portraits remain a strong passion, creating timeless personal memories and beautifully family stories.

Being curious by nature I enjoy trying new approaches, whether that be in the image capture or in final finishing post-production technologies. I am enthusiastically exploring new opportunities to create fresh impressions of the subjects I photograph.
My images are most impressionistic in nature and do not pretend to always be realistic representations, they reflect my impressions through various photographic mediums and artistic methods. My images have been recognised with a number of awards for my portraits, underwater and above water images. I am excited to have had a number of images accepted in national and international competitions. I am currently a member of Belmont 16 footers Photographic Club, and President of Snappers Underwater Group based in Newcastle.

FCC Interclub Competition

Hi members,

The Interclub Competition will be open for entries on 31st July and closes on 13th September 2020 .The categories are : AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE COLOUR, MONOCHROME, CREATIVE AND NATURE. Ian and I leave on Wednesday 22nd July and so I will be trying to manage this whilst away. We are not due back until early September. I am hoping to return on time to select images to enter from our website. Normally I would get together with other members of the Committee to select the images for entry but this is not possible time wise with us travelling and a rush on our return to enter the images. Please send me an email if you do not wish for Ian and myself to choose any of your entries for selection.. I hope you understand ..

August Competition

Hi All,

We had another great comp night over zoom on Monday night.

There were once again some very impressive images from our very talented members.

Congratulations and well done everyone!

It was fantastic to have our judge Sharron Leppien join us at our zoom meeting. She certainly provided us with very detailed comments.
We also had our August judge, Ian Marriner, along to check out how we do it and get an idea of the standard of our members.

Due to the changes in our entry dates, which everyone should now be well informed about, we have only till the 25th July to get our entries for our August competition in. From today, Wednesday 15th July, that gives us another 10 days.

Unfortunately, if you miss the deadline there is nothing we can do. The images are passed onto the judge early in the morning on the day after and the competition cannot be reopened.

Please put the date in your calendar where you’ll remember.

Our next competition night is on Monday 10th August and will again be over zoom.

Entries will again only be digitals and the closing date for entries will be 11pm on Saturday 25th July.

Our set subject for August is:
Portrait – “This is to be a portrait of people. A portrait of an animal will not be allowed for this competition. It needs to be a photo of one or more people. It can be done inside or outside and using studio lights/flash or natural lighting. “

As well as our set subject we will have are usual colour and mono categories.

Our judge for August is Ian Marriner.
At this stage I don’t have a Bio for Ian so have no information to share.
Ian is going to put together a Bio and send it to me. When I get it I’ll do another post.

Good luck to everyone and enjoy taking some portrait photos.
